Historical Significance

Traditional homes of Java were famous for their distinctive design, as well as the care with which they were made.
Why does so much of this furniture have carvings in it ?

Built prior to the Dutch Colonial Period, these homes emphasized solid Teak construction and specific design features. One feature consisted of intricate carvings all around the house, primarily above the main entryway. Several hundred years old now, these iconic structures are disappearing into history as they are torn down. The carvings you see in many pieces of our furniture are the actual carvings reclaimed from these historic homes, and preserved by incorporating them into furniture that is sought by designers and collectors the world over.
